Coca-Cola’s “If You Love It Light” Ad: What do you think of it??

So I have recently caught this Coca-Cola ad “If You Love It Light” mainly shown in the UK, and I am surprised I have not caught this earlier.  But obviously, the ad is about staying away from calories by drinking the light Coca-Cola.  However, you also have super skinny “fashionable” marionettes with what I call “lolipop” heads dancing around in Christian Louboutins heels.  These lolipop head characters are obviously in a fashion house office of some kind, getting happy on light Coca-Cola.  It is actually quite funny but at the same time shows a little bit of a disturbing caricature of the industry’s women… What do you think?  If you have not seen the video, check it out here below after the print ad.

Some Items From Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters is one of those very interesting stores where you can find great items hidden amongst so many other…. well, not so unique items.  It’s just that with other stores like Forever 21 where younger people can afford somewhat fashionable clothing at a very low price, spending $68 on a regular top for many of them  is just not happening! Especially in these economic times!

However, I have to admit that I can’t resist Urban, because sometimes they have unique and querky pieces hidden around the filled store, waiting for you to find them.  Since I do not mind going around and looking for a piece I want absolutely have to buy, going to this store can actually be great fun.  Well for my style not my wallet!

On a recent trip there, I found some simple but interesting items (below).  On the hanger, they may look not so special, but once you put them on, they take on a life of themselves.  The secret is to always, ALWAYS, TRY IT ON!!  Plus I noticed in the men’s section, some Nikes with black leather on soft grey material.  Pretty nice for girls too!

Women, Design & SportsWear: “Va$htie Kola First Female to Design for Jordans”

We love it when a woman breaks into an all male territory, especially when it comes to areas of design like sports fashion.  To women, mascara, heels, curls, or nail polish should not stop us from being amongst the boys and contributing our talent to an area of work mostly led by guys!  In fact our perspective may just be the new thing to help a brand rake in more $$$.  So when a girl does just that, it is just GREAT!  This week’s example is Va$htie Kola.  A New Yorker of Trinidadian heritage, known for her talent with video making, her keen eye for fashion, and ability to bring the global, artsy, street, basically the new york feel to whatever she produces.  Now she is the first woman to design for Jordans, soon available in stores October 2nd.  Can’t wait to see what else she can bring, props to her for the being the first LADY to join the Jordans design team.  Check out one of her designs Ladies Air Jordan 2 Retro in Lavender.  Do you like them??

Beauty Favs

Summer times are great for really figuring out which beauty products officially make your “Beauty Must-Have” list for life.  That’s because during the high temperatures we tend to perspire more often, and thus it is much much easier for your make up and your beauty product to just go WRONG.  Wearing the simple, clean, and matte look is always best because LESS IS MORE, we all know this! However knowing which products will enhance your natural beauty and features BUT also withstand extreme weather changes is key.  So this past summer, a couple of products (some new, some classics) have made my special “Must-Have list”;  and I will definitely be taking them into the colder seasons.  Here they are (top to bottom):

1. BOSCIA LUMINIZING BLACK MASK available at Sephora: Skin has nice texture and feel after use, and it supposed to help skin from appearing dull and lifeless

2. Make Up Forever Professionals HD foundation available at Sephora:  Looks great especially at night and if you are going to be taking lots of pictures, it gives a nice matte look and flawless finish

3. Lancome Hypnose Volume Waterproof Mascara available at Sephora: Great if you don’t have very long or full lashes, it immediately brightens your eyes with a couple strokes… love this mascara!

4. Tarte Lip Stain with Lip Surgence Technology available at Sephora: This is a good way to give lips some color; just add a little bit of lip balm or gloss on top and Voila you got a pretty pout.  The Lip Surgence technology gives moisture to lips for longer than most lip stains.

5. Maybelline Shine Essential Lip Gloss in Tempting Toffee available at CVS: love this to finish a look, the color is soft and not too noticeable and a little bit does just the trick.

New York Fashion Week Finale: L.A.M.B & NAEEM KHAN

The final two fashion shows of Fashion Week, L.A.M.B fashion line by singer Gwen Stefani and NAEEM KHAN were both interesting because of their use of bold materials and colors, and noticeable hair choices for the runway.  L.A.M.B of course was younger and hipper, with African influences from the print, to the materials, and colors.  Plus the print vest that Gwen Stefani wore was quite a nice item.  While KHAN’s show, a little more ladylike, but also with some Orient influences with the rich details and materials…  Take a look a look at both runways with the following videos:

The Trench Dress: Wear it this Fall and Early Spring 2011

The trenchcoat look is back this season, and perfect for the not so cold and rainy weather.  For those who live in rainy cities like London, you actually always have a trench and raincoat, but of course keeping a trendy and up to date cut is important.  Now you can either wear the trench as a coat or a dress, and the best part about it is that this look started appearing in spring 2010 but it also appeared in Spring 2011 NY Fashion week with designers like Rachel Roy.  So now you can even take an old trench, cut up the sleeves (of course at a tailor if you are the scissors happy type), slim the waist, and a belt from the same fabric, and have it ready for Spring of next year.  Here is a look at some of the trenchcoat dresses already available now;
