BEAUTY: Looking Sheerly Amazing!

It surely is amazingly hot out there and I have just landed a great face cream to help me look sheerly amazing – flawless and no discoloration please, especially for high ‘melaninified’ skins of Olive to Dark brown tones! Ole Henriksen’s Sheer Transformation available at Sephora (click here) is natural and so far is working great.  This cream is smooth, light, and fast absorbant!  I will keep posting on the transformation my skin is going through.  But I have to say, keep bringing out great products Ole Henriksen, there is a reason why Sephora beauty advisors keep recommending you everytime I walk in there!  O’le to you!!

Also to help your skin stay even as your skin, freckles, unwanted bumps are exposed to harsher summer time rays, try Ole Henriksen’s other natural products in serums like Enlighten Me or Roll-on Blemish Attack also available at Sephora online and in store.

New Item: YSL Rouge Pur Couture

A new beauty item to try is the YSL ‘Rouge Pur Couture’.  This Yves Saint Lauren item is a long wear and hydrating lipstick.  Available at or Sephora stores.  It leaves a noticeable deep color and satin look.  Great for evenings.

My Color Picks: Rouge Flamme, Le Rouge, and Noir Laque

Writing about beauty is always fun, but the best is when you stumble upon stories of change and transformation even through something most people see as an area fueled by vanity.  Photography by Tiana Markova at “Duckrabbit — we produce photofilms”, showing images of poor young women on the streets of Rio, Brazil, finding a way out of poverty, abuse, and hopelessness through the  Salão Escola de Beleza Afro (School of Afro Salon Beauty). The goal of this school: “To provide these women with the opportunity to find their self-worth again and use beauty as means of independence instead of bondage to poverty and abuse”.  A great initiative and the strong photography by Markova below, speaks of it!

Beauty Favs

Summer times are great for really figuring out which beauty products officially make your “Beauty Must-Have” list for life.  That’s because during the high temperatures we tend to perspire more often, and thus it is much much easier for your make up and your beauty product to just go WRONG.  Wearing the simple, clean, and matte look is always best because LESS IS MORE, we all know this! However knowing which products will enhance your natural beauty and features BUT also withstand extreme weather changes is key.  So this past summer, a couple of products (some new, some classics) have made my special “Must-Have list”;  and I will definitely be taking them into the colder seasons.  Here they are (top to bottom):

1. BOSCIA LUMINIZING BLACK MASK available at Sephora: Skin has nice texture and feel after use, and it supposed to help skin from appearing dull and lifeless

2. Make Up Forever Professionals HD foundation available at Sephora:  Looks great especially at night and if you are going to be taking lots of pictures, it gives a nice matte look and flawless finish

3. Lancome Hypnose Volume Waterproof Mascara available at Sephora: Great if you don’t have very long or full lashes, it immediately brightens your eyes with a couple strokes… love this mascara!

4. Tarte Lip Stain with Lip Surgence Technology available at Sephora: This is a good way to give lips some color; just add a little bit of lip balm or gloss on top and Voila you got a pretty pout.  The Lip Surgence technology gives moisture to lips for longer than most lip stains.

5. Maybelline Shine Essential Lip Gloss in Tempting Toffee available at CVS: love this to finish a look, the color is soft and not too noticeable and a little bit does just the trick.

New Endorsements: “Zoe Saldana” for Avon and “Solange Knowles” for Rimmel London

It looks like beauty house brands have decided to give their brands an up-do with new endorsements by younger celebrities.  This time Avon has decided to sign on Zoe Saldana and Rimmel London has decided to sign on Solange Knowles (Beyonce’s sister if you are not familiar with her).  I think the choices are obviously to revive the brands and give them a younger and fresher appeal and also to attract younger customers.  In the UK, Solange Knowles is much more popular than in the US and also more appreciated as an artist since her music resonates more with the UK music lovers.  So choosing Solange Knowles for Rimmel London is a nice move.  I would have thought that they would choose Kelly Rowland, since she is even more popular in Europe, but I can see how Solange Knowles could help and add great appeal to the brand.  Solange Knowles has a distinct look, she is fashion forward, and pretty much comes across as a woman who is not afraid to speak her mind and make her own decisions as she pleases.  Solange Knowles will join other past endorsers for Rimmel London such as Kate Moss.  The new campaign will also feature Zooey Deschanel and model Alejandra Ramos Munoz this year.

Solange Knowles-Rimmel London

Zooey DeschanelAlejandra Ramos MunozIn my opinion Solange will add an another dimension to the sort of women that Rimmel London touches.  Hopefully, with Solange’s presence, they will also add more products for olive, caramel, to browner skin tones.  With her image, the brand may be able to reach a wider and more diverse population of young British women, and including those in the US.  In fact the senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Rimmel, Stephen Mormoris, said these women were chosen to ‘reflect the diversity of London and the Rimmel brand’.  The Beauty campaign will begin in Autumn of 2010.  Also, Rimmel London is owned by COTY inc, which also manages fragrances by Solange Knowles’ sister, Beyonce Knowles.

Zoe Saldana for Avon, "Eternal Magic"

With the success of Avatar, Zoe Saldana is seeing rise in her popularity, and with that comes major endorsements for beauty products.  So we are happy for her.  Avon is more low-key in comparison to Rimmel London, their ads are less flashy and more about natural beauty.  Nevertheless, Zoe Saldana will be able to bring a younger and fresher look to the brand, and like Solange Knowles with Rimmel London, it will only make younger women of different backgrounds attracted to Avon.  She will be the face of Avon’s new fragrance called Eternal Magic, starting this april.  She will join former endorsers Jennifer Hudson and Reese Witherspoon.

By the way: Beyonce Knowles (Solange Knowles sister) and her mother Tina Knowles, have opened a beauty school in Dumbo, Brooklyn name the “Beyoncé Cosmetology Center” at the Phoenix Center a rehab center for people overcoming drug addictions.  The school will include a seven-month beauty training course, in order to give chance to individuals wanting to rebuild their lives and with a passion for practice in beauty.
